Session overiew- This session will equip clinicians with the skills and confidence to discuss food, nutrition, and traditional health practices with patients in a respectful, culturally sensitive, and non-judgmental way. The session will focus on asking about food habits without sounding awkward, making assumptions, or reinforcing stereotypes. 

More about Tadala- Tadala is passionate about addressing health inequalities through education, early intervention, and practical nutrition strategies. She facilitates training on Cultural Intelligence and Making Every Contact Count (MECC), empowering healthcare professionals to provide inclusive, patient-centred care. As an advocate for equity in healthcare, Tadala works across clinical, academic, and community settings to improve outcomes and promote cultural understanding in dietetics. 

  • Making nutrition support services inclusive with Dr Alexandra Mitchell 

Session overview- This session will explore practical strategies for designing and delivering nutrition support services that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of diverse patient populations. Drawing on research and clinical experience, Dr. Alex Mitchell will discuss barriers to access and engagement, and approaches to creating services that better support individuals from different cultural, social, and health backgrounds.

More about Alexandra- Alex is a registered dietitian and researcher. In her current role as Research Associate at Cardiff University, she works on an NIHR-funded project on inclusive prehabilitation for cancer patients. Alex completed her PhD in 2021 at the University of Bristol, NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, on dietary advice and management for people with an ileostomy. Before this, she worked clinically as an acute hospital dietitian, with experience in multiple specialities including trauma and critical care, respiratory, gastroenterology, and surgery. Alex has published her research in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. She is the research lead for the BDA gastro group.
