Marie Skerry
BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics
I am an experienced Dietitian with nearly 30 years post graduate practice. I have extensive experience across a wide range of dietetic areas with particular skills in:
Malnutrition (including appropriate use of oral nutritional supplements)
Ageing well / elderly care
Dementia
Diabetes
Heart health
IBS (including a FODMAPs approach) / gastrointestinal conditions / coeliac disease
Dietary allergies and intolerances
Cow's milk protein allergy in children
I am a good listener and will help you understand how diet could improve your health and wellbeing and keep you healthy in the future. I can give you practical advice, based on evidence, to help you keep your diet balanced while making adjustments to achieve any health related goals you have.
Since 2014, I have worked as a freelance Dietitian seeing individuals with a wide range of health conditions. I work regularly for a group of Dementia Specialist Nursing homes and provide dietetic support to a GP practice.
I began my career working in a large teaching hospital where my work included general medicine, general surgery, oesophageal surgery, elderly care, orthopaedics, dermatology, stroke, heart health and gastrointestinal conditions.
I specialised in diabetes, working for several years as a Diabetes Specialist Dietitian before working as a community dietitian, covering general dietetic clinics, home visits, diabetes and rehabilitation services. While in this role I developed specialist skills in the identification and treatment of malnutrition and its consequences. I trained healthcare professionals in both hospitals and primary care in the identification and treatment of malnutrition.
For the past 9 years I have worked as a Community Paediatric Dietitian for the NHS, working with children and their families to advise on cow's milk protein and other dietary allergies, coeliac disease and failure to thrive.
My wide ranging experience results in a realistic, down-to-earth approach to dietary change.
