Your role
You will provide overall leadership to the committee, ensuring the group delivers on its aims and continues to represent members effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide overall leadership to the committee, setting strategy and ensuring the group's aims and objectives are delivered
- Chair committee meetings
- Work closely with the Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary to lead governance and support committee members in their roles
- Champion members' interests to internal and external stakeholders, including policy consultations, practice guidance and media
- Lead collaboration with other BDA specialist group committees and other stakeholders as needed
- Support the committee to deliver member-facing resources, education and events, including the group Annual General Meeting
- Work with the Vice-Chair as part of succession planning for the group
Support and development
You will be fully supported throughout your term, including:
- Full induction with BDA staff and, where possible, a detailed handover from the previous Chair
- Access to the volunteer handbook, hub and monthly newsletter
- Workshops, webinars and the BDA annual Volunteer Support Day
- Ongoing support from the BDA Volunteer Manager and the wider committee
- Networking with specialist group Chairs and BDA leadership across the organisation
Commitment
We'd love for you to stay for the full two-year term, with the option to extend for a further two years if you're enjoying the role, giving you the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the group and the wider profession. Of course, as a volunteer we completely understand that life happens, and you're free to step back at any time.
To set you up for success from day one, you'll receive a detailed induction with BDA staff and where possible, the outgoing Chair. Committee meetings are held regularly and can be attended virtually, with flexible work between meetings shaped by the strategy and projects the committee agrees together.
