ARFID Sub-Group Key Documents

Welcome to our page which shares our key resources, tools, and guidance. Developed to support collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement across our dietetic profession, these resources are here to help you stay informed and connected.

  • Our 2026 Clinical Considerations for Gastrostomy Feeding in Patients with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) paper is extensively co-produced by working with committee members from the BDA Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Group (PENG), Learning Disabilities Sub-Group, Autism Sub-Group, Paediatric Group, with experts from Great Ormond Street Feeding and Eating Disorders Service, and by gaining legal expertise from a professor of medical law. It also heavily integrates the voices of those with lived experience through sharing case-studies and review. The piece examines the potential therapeutic role of gastrostomy feeding in those with ARFID, explores the clinical considerations and considers how this may reduce risks for some individuals.
  • Our 2025 ARFID Practice Toolkit deepdives into the practical understanding of the dietetic role in assessing and treating Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
  • Our 2023 CN award winning BDA Position Statement for working with Children and Young People with ARFID explores cruicially aspects of competency and service delivery. The group are currently working on our second edition of the position statement which will ensure it is applicable across the age range. We're hoping to share this by Summer 2026!
  • The Dietetic Safe Discharge Letter Template for CYPS and Dietetic Safe Discharge Letter Template for Adults  have been developed to support safe dietetic discharge, particularly where there is an assessment but no treatment pathway. They are designed to be lifted and used within local services and edited to meet your purpose.
  • This multi-vitamin and mineral resource was developed in response to requests from dietitians. It supports dietetic clinical practice by providing practical information on the introduction of oral micronutrient supplementation across the age range. We have also included a ready-reckoner tool. This aids clinical consideration of oral micronutrient supplementation across a range of preparations according to the sensory specificities of your patient in a quick and simple way. At the request of our members and to further support this tool, we have also created a blank template version for dietitians / dietetic teams to record and collate further additional supplements that they use/recommend on a regular basis. This resource is being updated in 2026. Please contact us if you have any preparations that you use regularly and would like to see included!
