We are a friendly and supportive committee made up of UK Dietitians working in the NHS, private practice, industry and research. Being part of the committee provides an opportunity to work collectively with Dietitians on national projects and consult on topical issues related to paediatric nutrition, key documents and statements
Paediatric Specialist Group Chair- Heather Grant
Heather is a paediatric dietitian with over 15 years of NHS clinical experience, specialising in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition (PGHAN). For the past 13 years, she has worked within a tertiary paediatric service in Edinburgh, supporting children and families with complex nutritional needs.
Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in gastrointestinal (GI) work at local, regional, national and international levels. This has included speaking and chairing at professional events, as well as contributing to clinical guidelines and research. She is passionate about advancing PGHAN dietetic practice.
Having been a member of the committee since 2021, she recently took on the role of Chair. She is committed to working with the fantastic Paediatric Specialist Group committee and its wider membership to support paediatric dietetics to flourish. Together, they aim to collaborate, share expertise and contribute to the continued evolution of paediatric dietetics.
Paediatric Specialist Group Vice Chair- Kiran Atwal
Kiran Atwal is a registered dietitian with over a decade of clinical expertise and research experience. Her career history spans across industry and NHS, focusing on the management of complex paediatric conditions. Kiran regularly writes for Complete Nutrition magazine (view column), and has stepped into the editorial team of the next edition of Clinical Paediatric Dietetics. Kiran has served on the British Dietetic Association Paediatric Specialist Group committee for almost 10 years, contributing to the development of the profession. In 2024, she was awarded the Elizabeth Washington Award for her work in childhood obesity and the Vanessa Shaw Award for her MSc research in childhood food insecurity and food allergy. She regularly publishes her work in scientific conferences and journals (see ORCiD). She can be found on LinkedIn.
