Today it has been announced that Robbie Butler, Lagan Valley Ulster Unionist Party MLA, has been selected as the new Health Minister for Northern Ireland.
The appointment follows the recent resignation Mike Nesbitt, who has served as Health Minister since May 2024.
Commenting on the new appointment, Debbie McGugan, Chair of the Northern Ireland Board, said “We would like to thank Mike Nesbitt for his work as Health Minister and the support he showed towards allied health professionals. His commitment to transforming our health service has been consistently clear, from efforts to reduce waiting lists, to the publication of the new Neighbourhood Model of Health and Wellbeing, which represents a fundamental shift towards prevention and early intervention.
“We welcome the appointment of Robbie Butler as Health Minister and look forward to working with him in the months ahead. There is already significant momentum behind many areas of health service transformation and we hope to see that progress continue under the new Minister’s leadership.
“Dietitians have a vital role to play in building a healthier population and a more sustainable health service. We look forward to playing our part in delivering that future.”
