We really need a Chair — could that be you?

We'll be honest: the Chair role is the one we're most eager to fill, and we want to make sure the right person doesn't talk themselves out of it.

Our current Chair is staying on until October specifically to support whoever steps forward, so you won't be going it alone. You'll shadow, learn, ask questions, and ease in gradually. By the time you're fully in the role, you'll be ready.

This is a key leadership role within the British Dietetic Association, offering the opportunity to shape the group’s direction, support its members, and influence work that impacts kidney dietetic practice across the UK. As Chair, you will guide the committee’s priorities, help steer its activities, and act as the main point of contact with the British Dietetic Association.

This is a collaborative leadership role, supported by an engaged committee and BDA staff, with opportunities to shape meaningful work at a national level.

Why consider the Chair role?
  • Shape the future of renal dietetics: Play a key role in influencing priorities, projects, and professional standards.
  • Develop your leadership profile: Gain experience in strategic leadership, decision-making, and committee governance.
  • Expand your professional network: Work closely with colleagues across the UK and build connections within the British Dietetic Association and beyond.
  • Make a tangible difference: Support group projects that directly impact dietetic practice and patient care.

You don’t need to have chaired before you'll have support every step of the way to develop your skills and experience.

What you'll be doing

As Chair, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the committee
  • Chair meetings and guide decision-making
  • Work with members to deliver the group’s aims
  • Act as the main link with the British Dietetic Association
  • Coordinate the committee to influence and build relationships with external stakeholders

You won’t be doing this alone, this is a collaborative role, supported by an experienced committee and BDA staff.

Skills you'll develop as a chair

The Chair role builds skills that will help you in your dietetic career:

  • Leadership and governance
  • Strategic thinking
  • Stakeholder and relationship management
  • Policy and advocacy
  • Communication
  • Project management
Support you'll receive

You won't be stepping into this role without a safety net. Here's what's in place to help you succeed:

  • Full induction with BDA staff
  • Shadowing and handover from current Chair
  • Access to our volunteer handbook & hub
  • Transferable skills and access to exclusive workshops & webinars
  • Grow your netwokr at our annual Volunteer Support Day
  • BDA Volunteer Manager support
  • Peer network of group Chairs
