The BDA has submitted a thorough and cohesive response to the NHS’s call for evidence on its 10-Year Workforce Plan, placing prevention and community-based care at the centre of its recommendations.

The response reflects the collective expertise of the profession, with contributions from numerous specialist groups who also submitted their own evidence. We extend our sincere thanks to every group that took part, your expertise and commitment have been invaluable in demonstrating the breadth and depth of dietetic impact across the NHS.

Informed by contributions from a wide range of specialist groups across the profession, the BDA’s response highlights the critical role of dietitians in tackling long-term health challenges through early intervention, public health initiatives, and integrated care. By prioritising prevention and community engagement, the dietetic workforce can help reduce the burden on acute services and improve population health outcomes. We call for greater recognition of dietetic leadership within Integrated Care Boards (ICBs). Our leadership in ICBs is essential to embedding prevention into strategic planning and ensuring nutrition is not sidelined in workforce development.

This response is part of a sustained and strategic effort to ensure dietetics is recognised and resourced appropriately within the evolving NHS landscape. The path ahead will require persistence, collaboration, strategic advocacy, and maximum effort—but we are confident that our voice will be heard.
