Share your thoughts on the latest NHS pay offer

24 February 2026

We are seeking your views on the recently announced government pay offer, for those of you working for the NHS, with Agenda for Change terms and conditions in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

The government has accepted the Pay Review Body's (PRB) recommendation and is offering a 3.3% award for 2026/2027, effective from 1 April.

The BDA, along with 14 out of 15 health unions representing NHS staff on Agenda for Change (AfC), did not participate in the Pay Review Body (PRB) process for the 2026-27 pay round.

Despite this, the government decided that paying the award on time was its priority, leading it to implement the PRB recommendations rather than directly negotiate with health unions on this offer.

Whilst we support any increase in pay for our members, it is important to highlight that although the current rate of inflation is 3% (as of 18 February), the Retail Price Index (RPI) - which more accurately reflects the real cost of goods and services - is 3.8%. Therefore, an award of 3.3% represents a real terms pay cut for our members.

The government has informed us that they will continue to work with health unions on the reform of the pay structure. We welcome the opportunity to continue to provide feedback, which will lead to improvements in your working terms and conditions.

We are now taking a temperature check of your feelings about the offer. This is not a formal ballot but an important first step for us to gauge your opinions. Please take a moment to complete our short survey based on the country in which you work. Surveys close on 10 March.

Access to the survey is based on information we have about you in our membership system. If you can't access it, it will be because some information is required from you on the MyBDA portal. Whilst we understand this is frustrating for members, we need to confirm your eligibility to vote ahead of a formal consultation.
